PTC Committees

Ogden Avenue School’s rich history of volunteering and parent support has helped make it an outstanding school!  Many of the programs and events your kids know and love are brought to you by the PTC and 100 percent facilitated by parents and volunteers. Participation on a PTC committee is an excellent opportunity to enhance students’ educational experiences at Ogden, get to know other Ogden parents and apply your skills and talents toward some of Ogden’s most popular programs and events – Field Days, the Red Sled holiday bazaar, art enrichment and so more.

If you have questions about volunteering or want to sign up for a committee, please contact us.

PTC Committee Volunteer Opportunities

ART ENRICHMENT – (3 times a year Commitment): The Art Enrichment program is a supplement to the art curriculum, which exposes students to a variety of artists, artistic styles and media.  Two or more parent volunteers lead a one-hour lesson in their child’s classroom three times a year.  The lesson consists of a discussion of the artist and an age-appropriate art project in that artist's style.  Ideas for each lesson are in folders in the canvas bags in the art closet, along with all the art supplies you should need. Art experience is not necessary.

BACK TO SCHOOL PARTY - (1 time a year Commitment/2-year term along with Ice Cream Social): Volunteers are needed to set up and run the games and activities and to help distribute and sell snacks.  The party is held on a Sunday in September.  Shifts are broken up so that volunteers can still enjoy the party with their families.  Family Friendly Event!

BIKE TEST – (1 time a year Commitment): Parent volunteers are needed to help register and test children in grades 3-6 who wish to ride their bikes to school. This year the event took place after school on September 8th. A parent is required to attend with their child. Event format is well established.  Representatives from the LaGrange and LaGrange Park Police Departments are also on hand to assist with the registration process.

Practices are generally an hour in length and games are usually played Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday evening between 6 and 9 pm over a 6-8 week period.

FIELD DAYS – (1 time a year Commitment) Parent volunteers are needed to help with the events and games planned for this day of fun!  This event will take place on a school day toward the end of May and a rain date will be scheduled as well.  Grades 1-3 will be held in the morning.  Grades 4-6 will be held in the afternoon.

FUN LUNCH - (1-2 times a year Commitment) Volunteers are needed to distribute pizza at lunchtime for 1.5 hours.

JR DETECTIVES – Lead lunchtime discussions for 2nd and 3rd grade book club. Parents will be given all discussion questions and facilitator materials.  The program would run approximately 4 weeks from Mid-Feb to Mid-March and it runs during the entire lunch period.

LUNCH CLUBS  –  (1 or more times per year commitment) Parent volunteers help supervise twice weekly Sketch and Pokemon Lunch Clubs during the student lunch hour in February and March, allowing students to participate in sketching or Pokemon related activities in their classroom.

POSITIVE SCHOOL CLIMATE COMMITTEE (PSCC) – Volunteers are needed to support events, workshops, book clubs, and student activities that focus on bully prevention, tolerance and character among the Ogden student body. Other PSCC activities promote parent education and community awareness on these topics.

QUIZ NIGHT – (1 time a year Commitment) Quiz Night will be held on February 9, 2018. Adults come together off campus to enjoy an evening of trivia, friendship and fun!  Volunteers are needed to assist the chairpersons with set up, clean up, scorekeeping, and money collection during the event.

RED SLED – (1 time a year Commitment) This is Ogden Avenue School’s major fundraiser of the year; it’s held on a Saturday in early November.  Volunteers are needed to decorate the night before, assist with the bake sale and in the Café, sell raffle tickets, help with publicity, be parking monitors in the early morning when crafters are arriving, take pictures with Santa, work a shift as security patrol and clean up after the event.

ROOM PARENT – (3 times a year Commitment) Class liaisons and parent volunteers (4-5 per classroom) are needed to plan and run 3 class parties a year. Parties are held at Halloween, Winter Break, and at the end of the year.  There is a general meeting in the early fall for all Room Parents to receive information and meet other Room Parents.  Please sign up for just one of your children, as classroom parties are often scheduled at the same times.

SCHOOL PICTURES – (1 time a year Commitment) Parent volunteers are needed for a full morning in September  to help coordinate getting the students from their classrooms to the room where the photographer is set up.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES – (1 time a year Commitment) Volunteers are needed to sort the pre-packaged school supply boxes by grade level and help distribute a couple of days before school starts to the students’ classrooms.

The Variety Show will take place in 2018 and then again in 2020.

YEARBOOK – Contribute photos throughout the year at school events and participate in yearbook layout in the Spring (evenings as needed January-March). Parent volunteers are needed from each grade.

GENERAL OFFICE HELP – Our administrators need help photocopying in the school office.  Morning and afternoon time slots start the second week of school. Please contact Polly Peterson if you are interested in this volunteer opportunity.

LAMINATING HELP - Volunteers are needed to run the laminating machine on Tuesday and Friday mornings.  Items to be covered are at the request of the teachers.  Training will be provided.  This opportunity may be for each week, or for every other week.

LRC VOLUNTEERS - Don't miss out on the fun in the LRC!  Volunteers are needed to work in the LRC at their convenience.  They would love to have you for shelving books, helping students and a variety of other tasks and projects.  Come when you can and stay for the amount of time that works for you.  If a specific time each week or every other week works for you, let the library staff know so they can create a volunteer schedule for you.
